The story behind our wine
When we bought the cascina in 2020, a large part of the vineyard had already been sold off, and the remaining 0.5 hectares stood unattended, consisting entirely of Moscato grapes that had been planted more than 50 years ago. We immediately planted Barbera vines and two varieties of local Piemonte white grapes: Bianver and Baratuciat. The vineyard is maintained by ourselves, with 95% of the work done by hand—from planting to pruning and harvesting. In 2024, we were certified as a biological producer.
Our first productions, from 2020 to 2022, were made externally. However, in 2023, we, along with fellow winemakers, decided to purchase a former carpenter’s workshop in Neive (Barbaresco Comune), which we transformed during 2023-2024 into a small "wine-house" — The Winery Neive — now housing the production of three smaller winemakers. The production is overseen by our oenologist, who has previous experience in California (US), Bordeaux (FR), and Barolo (IT).
With this expansion of our wine activities, we also decided in 2023 to extend our range by adding Barbaresco, made from grapes bought from the famous "Gaia-Principe" fields, along with a Langhe DOC Nebbiolo and a Langhe DOC Rosato made from the local Freisa grape.
In addition to our Moscato d'Asti and Langhe Rosato, which are fermented and aged for 8 months in stainless steel tanks, all of our other wines are aged in regenerated oak barrels (225L) for a minimum of 12 months, with our Barbaresco aged for 24 months. Over the past few years, we have produced 6 different wines, and by 2024, our total production will be approximately 2,000 bottles.
